Welcome to Prep M's wikispace!!
Welcome to our WIKI! This page will contain information about what we are doing in class, pictures and informaton for parents.
Term 2
This Term we are completing our Me theme and then moving into a unit of work on Community Workers. This will culminate in a visit to the township of Koo Wee Rup, later in the term, visiting the dentist, vet, fire station, butcher, baker and various places of interest in the community.
We are continuing to work hard in our Language Groups doing a range of Reading and Writing activities. In Mathematics we are continuing to give children the opportunity to work on Mathletics, but also introducing a new computer program called Galaxy Maths.
Please continue your home reading nightly as this is crucial to your child's reading development.
The children are trying really hard with their Magic 100 Words, remember all children progress at different rates through this program. Try not to compare your child's progress with others. Children's reading level progression does not always match their Magic 100 Words progression. In other words, when your child receives a new set of words to learn, they may not necessarily move up a reading level. Your child's reading is assessed regularly by teachers, either in Guided reading or by a "Running Record". This is a formal record of reading behaviour which allows us to study the strategies children are using to read. We need to ensure that your child has a good comprehension and understanding of what they are reading, as well as being able to recognise words. Children's home readers should not be too hard, as the emphasis at home is on enjoyment, understanding and fluency.
They often read at a higher level in class activities. So your child may be taking Level 2 readers home, but reading Level 3 books in Guided Reading sessions.
Please do not hesitate to speak to me if you have any concerns or questions about your child or the classroom program. This is a busy term with a written Report issued at the end of term. A Parent Teacher Meeting will be held prior to the Report being given to you. This will explain the report format to you and how your child is progressing in all areas. Below is a class timetable so you are aware of what we are doing each day.
